Kyrie Irving to the New York Knicks?
Rumblings have come out of Cleveland that Kryrie Irving is not happy with his situation with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After last week's meeting with the owner, Dan Gilbert, Irving and his agent have requested a trade. He also has told them that he prefers to be traded to either Minnesota, Miami, San Antonio or New York.
Per ESPN's Brian Windhorst , in a meeting that took place last week, Irving asked the Cavaliers to trade him. TNT's David Aldridge confirmed Irving's request.
Windhorst noted that Irving expressed to Cavs owner Dan Gilbert that "he wants to go play in a situation where he can be a more focal point and no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James."
The report adds that James "was informed of Irving's request and was blindsided and disappointed."
Woj reported that the Spurs are a team Irving listed as a preferred trade destination in the meeting. Chris Haynes of ESPN added the Miami Heat, New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves are also among the teams Irving would like to be traded to.
This is very interesting for the Knicks because one of the destinations that Melo has allowed are the Cavs. A trade could work with Melo going to Cleveland and the Knicks acquiring Irving. More pieces may be added to off-set contracts and appease the Cavs, like Frank Ntilikina, their 1st-round pick. But what once was a long-shot has become a reality after what has transpired the last week or so.
For Irving the Knicks make a ton sense because he wants to be the so called "the man" and the Knicks only have Porzingis as another star. Their ages are similar, so building going forward would work. If the Knicks are able to land Irving that would be a game-changer. Stay tuned as we update this story.
