I'm Returning to Dallas
It has been a hectic year and so much can change in that year. A year ago, when free agency started, everyone was waiting on LeBron and I was coming off one of my worst seasons in my career, I was just about to turn 30 years of age and trying to figure out what my next move was going to be. At this same point last year, we launched "Crossroads" and it was a success...I eventually made it to the Dallas roster. I made the Dallas Mavericks…meaning I was the walk on that had to prove himself.
A year later I am back in free agency, but so much has changed. I don't have to try out for a team like I did last year (starting from the bottom). I've proven to myself and others that I still belong in this League and I can contribute to help produce wins. Hopefully the mis-perception of me has now changed. All I know is that when this past season ended, even though things went south for us in Round 1 of the Playoffs, I still walked away from the Mavericks organization knowing we had a great working relationship...which brings me to my next point...
Good news Dallas fans! I'm ecstatic to announce that I will be returning back to a Mavericks uniform this upcoming season. My agent, Jeff Schwartz, just called me like literally 2 hours ago. We've been going back and forth on calls...he's been making calls to negotiate the best scenario for me. We were all waiting for a few more dominos to fall before I sign anything. I know Dallas was always in the mix and I really wanted it to work out, which I'm thankful it sure did. We've come to terms and I'm returning back to Dallas. It's only right. Since Day 1 the organization has welcomed me and my family with open arms. I felt an immediate brotherhood with my teammates. I have nothing but respect for Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson. Those guys operate a first-class organization. They've been straight up with me and that's something that I value a lot...communication. And Coach Carlisle, what can I say about a man that wants to see the best in me and most importantly that BELIEVES in me. I thank you Coach. I don't see myself anywhere else. I love Dallas and I'm coming back.
By the way, I'll share some insights with you as well. Doc Rivers called…he spoke well of me. They were a solid option. I had the Clippers high on my list as well. It was a tough decision. I also spoke to Ernie Grunfeld (Queens native, represent!) the GM at the Wizards. The Wizards were intriguing too. They're going to be really good this year in the East. And to be really honest, Sac-town was very tempting as well. All these teams would be interesting…but I no longer have to think about it. Because I'm a Maverick. Thank you to those other teams for considering me and giving me the possible opportunity - truly appreciate that.
Signing off and feeling blessed,
