Mariners Daily 3/10

By Emerald City Sports
Mar. 11, 2017

Well it was definitely in interesting game for the Mariners today, who after trailing 10-2 rallied back to walk off against the Cubs 11-10. O'Malley delivered the game winning 2 RBI single after the Mariners furiously rallied back scoring 9 unanswered runs including an inside the park home run by Luis Liberato. Chris Heston got the start and had another great performance going 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO before Mark Rzepczynski took over going 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO. However after Rzepczynski things went downhill, Vincent allowed 3 runs on 4 hits over 1 inning, Vieira allowed 4 runs on 5 hits over 0.2 innings and Owings allowed 2 runs, 3 earned runs, on 2 hits over 1.1 innings.

Offensively it was a slow start for the Mariners, but once the substitutions were made the M's started to storm back. Boog Powell, Taylor Motter, D.J. Peterson, Dan Vogelbach, Joe DeCarlo, Ben Gamel, and Guillermo Heredia all had great games and were huge parts of the rally.

Defensively Freeman had another error today, which is not good because for some reason he has been committing errors lately at a high rate.

WBC Updates

Japan defeated China 7-1

United States defeated Columbia 3-2, Final/10

Puerto Rico defeated Venezuela 11-0, Final/7

Felix Hernandez was the only Mariner who got to play today in the WBC today as he started for team Venezuela. Felix went 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO, L but was let down by the lack of offense and poor defense behind him.

Edwin Diaz is on team Puerto Rico but didn't get to play because Puerto Rico was easily defeating Venezuela and the game was called in the 7th inning due to the Mercy rule so it is still unclear if Diaz will be the Puerto Rico closer or if he simply wasn't called upon to pitch.

Tomorrow the Mariners will host the Cincinnati Reds at Peoria Stadium at 12:10 PM PT. The game will be available to watch on ROOT Sports NW and available to listen to on 710 ESPN Seattle Radio. Chase De Jong will make his first start with the M's this spring, 2nd total appearance, and will be opposed the by the Reds' Brandon Finnegan.
