Quade Green & Other 5-Stars Visit Kentucky for Big Blue Madness (Photos)
These are the nights when John Calipari is able to take a five-star recruit uncertain of his future and get him to believe in joining the Big Blue Family.
Neuman Goretti star point guard Quade Green got a taste of just how big Kentucky basketball is to the blue grass state, as he and other top commits took their official visit to Kentucky for the annual Big Blue Madness.
Quade was joined by No. 2 Mohamed Bamba (6-11 center), No. 7 Kevin Knox (6-8 forward), No. 14 P.J. Washington (6-7 forward), No. 17 Nick Richards (6-10 center), No. 22 Trae Young (6-2 guard) as they sat right behind the UK bench.
UK fans reportedly camped out for days to get tickets to an event that’s become a show since Calipari became head coach. He brought in famous bo announcer Michael Buffer to introduce him and the players using part of his famous line: “Let’s get rrrrready to rrrrroundball!”
Almost 80 former Kentucky players joined the festivities, walking the “blue carpet,” before joining him on stage. The list included names John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins.
Others appearing on a video included Aaron Harrison, Ron Mercer, Tyler Ulis, Alex Poythress, Tayshaun Prince, Kyle Wiltjer, Devin Booker, Rajon Rondo, Rex Chapman, Brandon Knight, Chuck Hayes, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Eric Bledsoe, Archie Goodwin, John Wall and Nerlens Noel.
“,” Booker said. “You can’t be soft,” Chapman warned. “Chase your dreams,” Knight said. But most of the rest delivered Calipari’s real message of the night, directed at the six 5-star recruits from the Class of 2017 sitting in the front row.
“Welcome to the family,” they said.
