The Winnipeg Jets will be selecting 2nd overall at this year's draft and while they most likely won't be getting Auston Matthews, their next selection could be just as special.

Patrik Laine, the second best prospect overall in this year's draft, has done nothing but dominate this year and has continued to prove to everyone that he has just as much potential as Matthews to be one of the next best stars in the NHL. While he probably won't go No. 1, he'll still be joining a team on the uprise with a really good set of young players with the potential(or have already proven) to make a big impact at the NHL level.

When you look at the Jets current forward core, along with adding in the top prospects that are really close to the NHL, you've got players like Bryan Little, Blake Wheeler, Mark Schiefele, Marko Dano, Nikolaj Ehlers, Nicolas Petan, and Kyle Connor headlining that group. Add in Laine and that will definitely make for an exciting young group and one to watch going forward.

The Jets have shown signs of becoming a better team, hence the playoff appearance in 2015, but are still battling with trying to become a consistent contender. While one player doesn't always change the way things go, Laine comes into the perfect situation, with a group of guys, some of which have shown excellence in the NHL so far, that are ready to win, and ready to win now. And let's not forget the defense core as well, headlined by Jacob Trouba, the devastating hitting Dustin Byufglein, and Tyler Myers.
