NHL Week 1 Overreactions
1. The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to score a 1,000 goals. Look the Maple Leafs offense is extremely impressive so far. They are clicking at an alarming 6.33 G/Gp which is ridiculous. They just beat the Blackhawks on Monday night the leagues 2nd highest scoring team. While I do think this is one of the most prolific offenses in the league, this rate is completely unsustainable and this team hasn't quite sold me on being a Stanley Cup contender just yet.
2. The Vegas Golden Knights may not be that bad. Marc Andre Fleury has been lights out as the Vegas goalie and being a Penguins fan I've seen him when he's at his best and that's when the odds are stacked against him and he faces a ton of shots per game. Fleury will be a bright spot but only scoring 2 G/Gp isn't going to get it done. The Golden Knights will be out by trade deadline time and will dump top scorer James Neal for a first round pick.
3. The Washington Capitals are different this time. Alex Ovechikn is on fire. Two hat tricks in his first three games is ridiculous. I've always said he's the goal scorer of the generation but pump the breaks on the Capitals we've seen this movie over and over again, nothing has changed, this team is cursed with bad juju come playoff time.
4. Nashville has a Stanley Cup final hangover. The Preds have not been impressive their first three games, they are banged up on the back end and goal tending has been a problem. Juuse Saros started on Saturday and was lit up in the Stanley Cup Final rematch against the Penguins. The Predators are going to be fine but they may need a little bit of time to get going.
