Ovechkin Records 1000th Point; Backstrom has 4-Point Night

Alex Ovechkin set the tone for the Washington Capitals 35 seconds into the game against their arch rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins. He scored his 1000th career point on a goal. They cruised past the Penguins 5 to 2.

Ovechkin also tallied another goal in the second-period. Justin Williams made it 3 to 0 in the third-period for the Capitals. Evgeni Malkin scored a power-play goal for the Penguins later. Nicklas Backstrom responded with a power-play goal for the Capitals. He had 1 goal and 3 assists on the night.

With under 3 minutes remaining, Patric Hornqvist scored another power-play goal. Lars Eller scored an empty-net goal for the Capitals. Braden Holtby stopped 30 shots for the Capitals. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 25 shots for the Penguins. These two teams play each other one more time season.
