Best Pro Baseball Team P25 : What Happened to Delta Force?
In Part 24, the Delta-Echo-Foxtrot Challenge reached Round 3 because mathematically speaking, neither group had a winning record against the other two. Delta came in only three wins over Echo from claiming the challenge win and the X-Ray Championship, but their 1st three teams (1882 Cincinnati Reds, 1881 Providence Grays, and the 1878 Milwaukee Grays) all lost their 1st Round games and were eliminated. Echo and Foxtrot had two teams each, who already made it to the 2nd Round. For Echo it was the 1884 St. Louis Maroons and the 1884 New York Metropolitans. For Foxtrot it was the 1873 Boston Red Stockings and the 1874 Brooklyn Atlantics. They also received the first round bye, so 1F 1886 Chicago White Stockings were also in the 2nd round.
The DEF Challenge was now playing Game 5 on 6-8-1887 and it was between the 8D 1882 Providence Grays and the 9E 1876 Louisville Grays. These two teams did not exist at the same time so only offensive and defensive parameters were used to determine the final score. Providence won 10-4 putting Delta on the board, Delta now trailed Echo 23-21 and led Foxtrot 17-9. Game 6 was also played on 6-8-1887 and was between the 8F 1874 Chicago White Stockings and the 8E 1872 Troy Haymakers. There was not any real world information for this game because the White Stockings did not play in 1872 or 1873 due to the Great Chicago Fire and Troy only played between 1871 and 1872. The Haymakers won 14-9, Echo now trails Foxtrot 31-28, and leads Delta 23-21.
Game 7 was also played on 6-8-1887 and was between the 7F 1872 Brooklyn Atlantics and the 7E 1886 St. Louis Browns. There was not any real world information for this game because they were from different leagues and did not meet in the World Series, so only o/d parameters were used to determine the final score. The Browns won 13-10, Echo now trailed Foxtrot 31-29 and led Delta 23-21, so they were getting very close to taking the lead. Game 8 took place on 6-9-1887 and was between the 6E 1885 St. Louis Browns and the 7D 1877 St. Louis Brown Stockings. These two teams were from two different lineages, but never played one another, so again, only o/d parameters determined the winner. The Browns beat the Brown Stockings 13-5, Echo now led Delta 24-21, but trailed Foxtrot 31-29.
Game 9 also took place on 6-9-1887 and was between the 6F 1883 Chicago White Stockings and the 6D 1883 Philadelphia Athletics. These two teams did not meet in 1883, so only o/d parameters were used to yield the final score. The White Stockings shell shocked the Athletics 21-7, Foxtrot now trailed Delta 17-10, but led Echo 31-29. Game 10 was also played on 6-9-1887 and was between the 5E 1874 Philadelphia Athletics and 5F 1877 Boston Red Stockings. All the games from the 1874 season had already been used, and the next game on the list was a game from 9-4-1875 when the A's won 6-3, so this was added into the formula. The A's edged the Red Stockings 10-9, so now they trailed Foxtrot 31-30, but led Delta 24-21. Coming into the challenge, it was Delta who was looking to close it out as the winners, and now Echo was two games away from taking the lead and defending it through the rest of the challenge to take 2nd Place in the Group Standings behind Alpha.
