GK: John McCarthy, Philadelphia Union

1x Team of the Week

The backup keeper in Philly showed off his own skill given a chance to start against Kansas City. McCarthy was able to only allow KC to put one past him while recording six saves in the process. McCarthy showed some excellent flashes of skill in net and is someone who has a chance to start at the MLS level. McCarthy has received plenty of minutes at the USL level and now with an international break got a chance to show off his skill on the first team.

DEF: Anton Walkes, Atlanta United FC

1x Team of the Week

Walkes reminds me of a soccer Swiss army knife. The young Englishman can play both fullback positions, centerback, defensive mid, and even some wide midfield. Walkes showed that he should be receiving some consistent first team minutes as the young man scored a goal against San Jose. Even though Atlanta allowed two goals to SJ Walkes impressed and made some smart passes and tackles.

DEF: Lalas Abubakar, Columbus Crew SC

1x Team of the Week

The rookie center-back for Columbus made his first MLS appearance against Minnesota and really impressed, especially for a team lacking solid center-back play. Abubakar was part of a Crew backline that shutout Minnesota United. He was easily the best defender on the field and shut down any attack that was building up through the middle of the field.

DEF: Joevin Jones, Seattle Sounders

3x Team of the Week

The T&T international has once again impressed for Seattle on both sides of the ball. The Sounders backline lead by Jones was able to hold the Rapids to only one goal. Jones played wonderful on the left side of the defense and the lone goal scored against Seattle was hardly his fault. Jones also did what he is known to do as he pushed up the field into the offense. His presence in the offense was felt as he assisted on Dempsey’s 6th minute goal.

DEF: Ike Opara, Sporting Kansas City

5x Team of the Week

Easily the best defender so far this season has been Ike Opara of Sporting Kansas City. Opara once again showed his skill as he and the SKC backline only allowed one goal to the Philadelphia Union. Opara dominated most matchups in this game as he used his strength to body Union attackers off the ball. Opara has really progressed this season and has been a major piece in the SKC backline.

MID: Michael Barrios, FC Dallas

3x Team of the Week

The first midfielder is Michael Barrios of FC Dallas. Barrios is not a household name in MLS but he should be. The impact he has on each game he plays in is ridiculous. This week Barrios was able to assist on two goals for Dallas. Barrios first assisted on Maxi Urruti’s 47th minute goal and then later on Roland Lamah’s 55th minute goal. Barrios’s passing is so key for this team as he and Mauro Diaz set up much needed scoring opportunities for this club.

MID: Roland Lamah, FC Dallas

3x Team of the Week

As I stated with Barrios, someone has to put away the midfield’s key passes. Roland Lamah is one of those guys as this week Lamah was able to put away two of his team’s four goals. Lamah put Dallas up 2-1 during stoppage time going into the half. He was also able to score his team’s final goal at the 55th minute. A brace from the FC Dallas midfielder has landed him on the Week 19 Team of the Week.

MID: Miguel Almiron, Atlanta United FC

6x Team of the Week

I knew this guy had crazy skill watching his highlights and his preseason games but I didn’t think he would be this good. This week Almiron was able to assist on two goals. That may not sound that good but the way he moves with the ball at his feet is magical. Then when he decides to distribute the ball… so sweet. Almiron first assisted on Josef Martinez’s 65th minute goal and then later assisted on Martinez’s second goal in the 89th minute.

MID: Albert Rusnak, Real Salt Lake

2x Team of the Week

Rusnak may have received a little confidence boost being away with the Slovakian youth team. Rusnak and RSL was able to score six goals on their way to beat LA. Rusnak was able to account for three of his team’s six goals. He started the scoring by putting away the game’s first goal in the 36th minute. Then in the 45th minute he was able to assist on Kyle Beckerman’s (yeah he’s still alive) goal. Then finally the midfielder was able to assist on a goal scored by Yura Movsisyan in the 62nd minute.

FOR: Clint Dempsey, Seattle Sounders

4x Team of the Week

Captain America showed off in Week 19. Dempsey was able to score himself a brace against Colorado by scoring goals in the 6th and 85th minutes. Scoring two goals wasn’t it however. Dempsey was able to assist on Will Bruin’s 30th minute goal. When you can factor in on all three of your team’s goals then you deserve a spot here and as the MLS Aces Player of the Week.

FOR: Sebastian Giovinco, Toronto FC

3x Team of the Week

The Italian Stallion of MLS is back in action! Giovinco was able to score himself a brace and an assist as TFC beat Orlando City 3-1. Gio scored goals in the 46th and 65th minutes to seal the game for the Reds of the Lions. Giovinco also assisted on Altidore’s 18th minute goal. What a week it was for the Atomic Ant of Canada.
