Audit Shines Light On Minnesota Hoops Overspending
The University of Minnesota released an internal audit of the expenses in and around their men's and women's basketball programs. The findings aren't all that kind to current men's hoops coach Richard Pitino and ex-Athletics Director Norwood Teague.
Brett Hoffland caught up with an ex-Gophers AD and a Gophers alum who weren't all that happy with the findings.
Teague, who gave Pitino permission to fly over budget during his tenure, is an easy target- considering the storm that was around him when he was asked to leave the university. Teague would have had to approve the over-expenditure in the first place. By the way, Mark Coyle left Syracuse to take the AD spot at Minnesota and was introduced today to the locals.
Pitino and women's coach Marlene Stollings signed off on the internal audit issued by the university and the recommendation of the audit is to seek reimbursement of the overspending.
“Overall, it just looks like we need to tighten up operations in basketball, and perhaps overall athletics,” he said. “The accountability just doesn’t seem to be there.”
