The Las Vegas Raiders...??? At This Point, Why Not...???
Looks like the owner of the Sands Casino might be interested in building a new football facility that could host both UNLV and the Oakland Raiders.
Sheldon Adelson has a meeting set up with Mark Davis Friday and it looks like Adelson wants to build a billion-dollar facility with some public and private funds to do it. The university has bought some land closer to campus and their current home at Sam Boyd Stadium. That's where the proposed place would be built.
Here's how KTNV is looking at the story this evening...
"As previously stated in public meetings, the 42-acre site has tremendous value given UNLV is a land-locked campus and a stadium is but one of the many potential uses identified. Other options include mixed-use retail or a variety of academic, research, and student facilities or some sort of combination. No decision has been made on how the property will be used and the evaluation is ongoing.
"If a public-private partnership can be formed that includes the development of a new special events stadium with little or no cost to UNLV and we have access to use the facility, then it would be of great value to us."
Next up... the meeting...
