Heel Tough Blog National Signing Day Central
As made official by the Carolina Football Twitter account, the 2017 class is officially closed. A.J. Davis, who listed Carolina as one of his final three options back in December has said that the Heels are out, meaning the Heels will close the 2017 class with 20 enrollees and one grey shirt player. The Heels class current sits at 27th, after Nebraska jumped the Heels into the top 25. The Heels will close this cycle out with a top 30 class and should finish 5th in the ACC. If anything changes, this page will keep you updated.
With the Newsome commitment the Heels still remain 26th overall in the team rankings on 247sports.com. Heels are still 5th in the ACC. Heels will need to land A.J. Davis or have some flips ahead of them to crack the top 25. Heels look solid at 5th in the ACC, but Louisville is within shouting distance.
Dazz Newsome has chosen to play his college football at Carolina. Newsome decommitted from Maryland earlier this month after a visit to Chapel Hill. Newsome is a flexible player who can play receiver or cornerback. Tape shows some very promising things. Big add for the Heels!!!
This is the big one. Dazz Newsome will commit at 10:10 AM. Not sure on the order, but predicting he will decide last, meaning the decision won't come in till around 10:17 or so.
Cooper Graham will officially walk-on at Carolina. That means all NLI's are in. Now we will wait on ATH Dazz Newsome and RB A.J. Davis to commit. Heels with a great shot at Newsome. Davis would be a bit of a shock.
Tyler Smith will not sign his NLI today. He will grey shirt and enroll in the spring next year, meaning he will be a part of next years recruiting class. Smith is a 3-star receiver who was poised to make an early impact.
Beau Corrales has officially sent in his NLI. Only two left barring a signing day commitment.
Still awaiting NLI's from WR's Tyler Smith and Beau Corrales and K Cooper Graham.
Caleb Rozar's NLI is in.
Ameer Speed is going to Georgia. Not a huge shock here for the Heels.
Malik Robinson and Brian Anderson's NLI's are in.
Three other Heels have sent in their NLI (Branch, McKethan, Gemmel).
The morning starts with Ameer Speed's decision. Would honestly be a shocker if he is wearing Carolina blue in the fall.
Seven Heels are already enrolled early (Melton, Lawler, Gill, Shaw, Cauthen, Carter, Riley) and five have signed their NLI so far this morning (Ross, Ruggles, Roberts, Tucker, Cotman).
Heels added their second kicker in three days, as Cooper Graham from IMG Academy officially committed to Carolina late Thursday night. Graham boasts a strong leg and shot compete with fellow freshman Noah Ruggles and veteran Freeman Jones for the starting kicking job next season.
