Charles Johnson released by the Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers have released defensive end Charles “Big Money” Johnson after he refused an offer to renegotiate his contract according to a couple of reports I heard. Johnson WAS overpaid by the Panthers but it's hard to blame him for that.

Johnson was poised to play for his hometown Falcons when the Panthers made him rich. Johnson was never elite but he was very solid though he battled injury last season. Johnson only had one regular season sack but had three in the playoffs.

I expect Charles Johnson to end up with the Falcons where he has always wanted to play, if the Dirty Birds still want him. There is a chance though that Johnson re-signs with the Panthers if free agency is not kind to him.

In other moves today the Panthers also released defensive tackle Dwan Edwards and offensive lineman Nate Chandler. The moves made today by the Panthers will leave them looking for linemen in the draft and free agency.
